Angelica Root Tea - Angelica archangelica L.

Origin: Brazil

Used part: Rhizome and root

Description:

Plant tall, elegant native of northern Europe, Angelica is easily found in cold and humid, and sometimes even considered wild. Its leaves are green, extremely bright and have an irregular cut. It can reach up to two meters high and sometimes are born in groups of up to five plants. It has a hollow stem (in wine color) and a serrated on its margin. Its flowers are greenish and yellow, numerous and small and are grouped in globular sequences (like a broccoli). It is a biannual plant that spreads by itself, giving flowers every three years (after that period the plant dies). Angelica has an intense and pleasant aroma.

Little is said about this plant, but as almost always, nature offers it as another herb full of benefits, both for health and commercial use. The stem and seeds of Angelica serve to smell the confectionery, while the leaves are used in the fermentation of bitter beers. The plant has several medicinal properties, such as use against digestive discomfort, anorexia, bronchitis, cramps and cramps. However, precisely because it is a plant still little known and studied, some precautions and contraindications need to be considered.

Health benefits:

Tonic and stimulant of the functions of the digestive system, the angelica tea has sedative action, balancer of the nervous system, digestive and spasmolytic. Among its benefits are the elimination of intestinal gases and fermentations, increased secretion of gastric juices, increased appetite, combat depression, neurosis and nervous weaknesses. In addition, it can be used in case of a stunned or atonic stomach, in addition to migraines caused by food and poor digestion.

It can also aid in the elimination of retained fluids, thereby helping in weight loss. Reduces nausea and the need for vomiting, combats digestive problems, intestinal pain, cramps and asthma. When applied externally, angelica helps to decrease bone pains, derived from rheumatism, for example.

In addition, the plant that is used to smell the confectionery and to ferment bitter beers, can still be used to treat anorexia, bronchitis and cramps.

Good Herbal Remedy:

  • It helps in reducing headaches and back pain
  • Decreases melancholy symptoms, preventing major problems like insomnia, anxiety or depression
  • It acts in the release of the liquids that are retained in the body, helping in the slimming
  • Decreases the need for vomiting. Consequently, it helps to decrease digestive problems, intestinal pains and lack of appetite
  • Relieves cramps
  • It helps people who have asthma
  • If applied externally, it helps to decrease the sensation of pain in the bones (as in cases of rheumatism)

Directions:

  1. Mix 20g of Angelica roots to 1 liter of water
  2. Boil for 10 to 15 minutes
  3. Strain and drink.

How to drink:

Take 1 cup 3 times a day.

For adults, the dose is 10 to 20 ml of tincture divided into two or three daily doses, which must be diluted in water. In infusion or decoction, use 2g of dry grass for each cup of water. Boil the water and add the herb, turn off the heat and leave for another ten minutes. Take three times daily with intervals. One can also make use of the herb to make infuso-concentrated baths.

Contraindications:

Angelica cannot be consumed in excess, because in high doses it has high toxicity, being able to provoke paralysis in the nervous system and skin cancer. With contact followed by exposure to the sun, it can cause dermatitis, which increases the progression of skin cancer. Consumption should not be done by patients with ulcers, women who are pregnant or nursing, as well as children with neurological problems such as epilepsy and patients with signs or who already have Parkinson's disease.

Before consuming any medication, even if natural, consult a doctor and analyze the drug interactions, as even plants may interfere with the functioning of other medicines being consumed by the patient.
